Banana grove Mpumalanga
After Kruger National Park our journey took us from Mpumalanga…
where in Nelspruit I was reminded of home,
through rolling hills,
and past Swaziland. Which looks much like South Africa with a barb wire fence between the two,
and into KwaZulu-Natal.
Got to the coast and walked the beach in Durban, where I lost my camera. (Most expensive shells I ever gathered.) This put me in a bit of a tizzy so we went to this HUGE shopping mall and I promptly bought another camera. I mean, I couldn’t go through with the rest of my vacation with no camera. And I survived the mall. I hate shopping malls.
Our journey continued towards the Drakensburg Mountains where John Hedges, son of Jo from Memorable Meanders, would meet us and lead me on an overnight hike into these towering, amazing green mountains topped by rocky spires. And on the way we found a beautiful place to camp on a reservoir.
Oh no Gail, did you have to risk the Pav? (as the Pavilion is fondly known in Durban) Glad you could get another camera and we get to enjoy South Africa through your eyes. Have a great day. (((hugs))) Jo
I notice how you didn't post much on Durban. I'm not a big Durb's fan myself, so I don't really care. I'm just still wondering how you managed to loose your camera while shell collecting. Or does that one stay a secret.
Sorry those shells were so expensive!! I love the Drakensburg. Diane
Nice landscapes, especially in Swaziland! Sorry about your camera. I don't like malls either, but even that must have been kind of interesting.
It's about time for you to "lose" another one and get a new one… 🙂
Maybe losing your camera was meant to be – your pics are better and better! (Or is it because you've taken thousands (as I have!)?
Losing a camera on a trip does lead to panic, and I hope you didn't have a lot of photos on it that weren't backed up. That is the real loss. About 10 years ago in New Orleans my camera got knocked out of the car and ended up getting run over. It was my first digital and I was very upset, but I did like you and went and bought a new one, which was smaller and did a lot more. Fortunately I was able to find a camera that took the same memory cards, so I didn't lose any photos. That experience made me think about my camera in a new way. Gone are the days when you had a camera for years and years and years. Now a camera is like a computer and is outdated as soon as you buy it. You can replace it with something cheaper that will do tons more. So now if something happens, instead of a disaster it is more of an opportunity.
That is a stunning header Gaelyn!! WOW!! I just love those colors.
You pics are bringling back lots of great memories for me.
Sorry about the camera loss, but I'm glad you were able to get another one pronto.
I enjoyed your travel photos, and I'm looking forward to more about your mountain hike.
What a great trip you had! Love the pics. Are you planning to go back for some more?
I am so enjoying your trip. So pristine, for the most part, except I did see some golden arches, which I could do without! 🙂
beautiful images…
sorry to hear about camera loss tho'
Excellent trip compilation – seen through a foreigners eyes.
mmmm – the camera story intrigues me too – I would be sad if I lost one of my cameras – and if the memory card was full I would be most upset.
McDonalds!!!!! Oh no!!!
And yes you must have sailed into Everett–there is a Naval Base. I posted a ship from there today. MB
I've never seen a banana grove so that was really interesting. And, I guess if you want something badly enough a shopping mall isn't the worst place. But I don't like them either.
Gorgeous photos as usual! I know all about losing a camera, as you know, I lost mine over the summer. I had some great photos of the Vermillion Cliffs and Marble Canyon with fog on it! but, life goes on, I got a new one. The worst thing about the whole experience, is that I had taken some pics of my "rash" that had not been deleted, so whoever found it got an eyefull when they looked at the photos on there, hehehehe.
